2024 Survey Season underway

Field surveyors 2024

The 2024 field teams underwent training in April in the South Lakes.  They are now out and about around GB collecting soils and recording vegetation until the autumn.


New! 'SOD' Soil health tool

The UKCEH soils team has developed an exciting new web tool - 'SOD'  (SOil funDamentals). SOD aims to help all landowners monitor and improve the health of their soil. The tool was developed using data from the UKCEH's nationwide Countryside Survey which has been exploring the change in soils and vegetation across the landscape since 1978 from cropland to woodlands, grasslands to wetlands.

We are sad to announce that Professor Bob Bunce, a Fellow of the UK 皇冠体育国际娱乐 for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) who was the founder of the Countryside Survey of Great Britain died in April after a short illness.


SWEET for ArcGIS - habitat mapping at UKCEH

UKCEH have been developing and using the SWEET for ArcGIS app for habitat mapping for use in the UKCEH Countryside Survey and in the Welsh  programme. The app has allowed us to recruit field surveyors who aren鈥檛 GIS professionals to collect data, to a higher quality than possible with other applications they have used previously.

UKCEH shortlisted for ESRI UK Customer Success Award

Field mobility

UKCEH has been shortlisted in the Field Mobility Category for the , 2022 for work undertaken for Countryside Survey, and the related project  using ESRIs GIS mobile apps. Winners will be announced in May.
